Function & Style—Robert Mathis' Pro Nitrous!

July 24, 2020

Longtime Pro Nitrous racer Robert Mathis has always mixed form and function with his Pro Modified vehicles. His latest race car is an exceptional machine with its classic maroon color featuring a Yenko stripe package and matching wheels. But the team wasn’t attending a car show at FuelTech headquarters, it recently hooked the fearsome machine to the in-house Mainline Pro-Hub dyno and put the new massive Buck Racing Engines through its paces. The engine is based off a 5.300-bore space billet engine block and checks into the party with a displacement of 941ci.

Feeding air into the Buck Racing Engines is a sheetmetal intake that has five-stages of nitrous, water injection, a set of fuel injectors, and four massive throttle bodies. The team selected a FuelTech FT600 engine management system in order to keep the 3,100HP combination under control.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE FUELTECH FT600

The FT600 offers many features and the PRO-Nitrous Control is a key element required for this combination. With Mathis aiming for 3.60s in the eighth-mile, the FT600’s other digital components will be handy as well. Those include sequential injection and ignition, O2 closed loop, Traction Control, Data Logger, Delay Box, Boost Controller, and much more.

The ECU box doubles up as an LCD display with a touchscreen showing real-time data and allowing the user to make adjustments without a PC connection. Each FT series ECU also includes data logging capabilities, making the FT600 and its sibling products a true all-in-one unit. Mathis added in the FTSPARK for the ultimate in spark energy as well as a set of WB O2 Nano sensors and various FuelTech sensors to get the most information from the integrated data logger.
